Zone and Enrolments

In New Zealand, most children start school shortly after they turn five. All children must be enrolled at school by their sixth birthday. Enrolling early helps us in planning for the number of children that will be attending, so it’s important to do this as soon as possible – ideally three months before they are due to start school.

If you are considering enrolling your child at our school, please give the office a call and they will make a time for a tour of the school with the Principal or Deputy Principal.  It is a great chance for us to begin to develop a relationship that enables us to care for and educate your child together.

Peninsula Primary provides a high quality rich education and has experienced significant growth.  The school adopted an enrolment scheme on 2016 under the advice of the Ministry of Education.

If you live within our zone you are entitled to a place at our school.  There is an area that is a shared zone with Matipo School.  Families in this area have the choice of either school.

The following original documentation will need to be brought into the school office as well as a completed enrolment form. We do need to sight the original.

  • Your child’s Birth Certificate (if your child was not born in NZ their passport is required)
  • Parent’s Passport (If the child has a parent who was not born in NZ and does not speak English as their first language, we must photocopy the parent’s passport for ESOL funding).
  • Immunisation record (Plunket book or Medical History)
  • Proof of address x 3 (e.g. Phone account – Power account – Gas account – Rental Tenancy Agreement – Rates account – Sale and Purchase Agreement)
  • The completed Statutory Declaration form

New Entrants:  For New Entrants Peninsula Primary runs a Right Start Programme which consists of visits to the school prior to the intake start date. This programme ensures a smooth and happy start to school life (for both children and parents) as the children get to know other children they will start with and Mums and Dads get to meet other parents.

Out of Zone Applications

If you live outside of the zone and you want to enrol you will need to apply through a ballot.  Under Ministry of Education guidelines there are some groups of students who are given preference; students who already have a sibling at our school, siblings of former students, children of former pupils and finally students of employees or board members.

Under Ministry of Education rules the school is unable to take any other information into consideration.
