EOTC - Education Outside the Classroom at Peninsula Primary School

At PPS, we are committed to providing opportunities for our tamariki to experience learning adventures beyond the traditional classroom setting. Whether it be a walk to the local parks, school camps or educational trips, students love being given the chance to explore and engage in hands-on experiences while gaining invaluable knowledge about the world we live in.

Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is defined as all those events that occur outside the classroom, both on and off-site, including all curriculum, sporting, and cultural activities.

Students learn through experiences appropriate to their needs and environment. Students need a variety of experiences for maximum development, and should be given opportunities to explore and learn from the world outside the classroom.

School camps are a highlight for our Year 5 and 6 students and we love taking our students to camp. To ensure our Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to experience many different EOTC opportunities, we have camp in odd years (next one being 2025) and other leadership experiences in even years. Our younger students experience many different exciting EOTC experiences too!

Some of the opportunities we’ve provided are: Skateboarding lessons, Beach Education, bike safety, surfing, marae visits, Tree Adventures, Life Education Caravan, Snow Planet, Lego workshops, TRYathon, MOTAT STEM, coding, and even a Matariki overnight stay at school!
