The School Day
Before 8.15 we ask that children wait at the front of the school on Waipani Road or by our kitchen at the top end of the school.
After 8.15 teachers are around school and children and parents are welcome in the classrooms or around the school.
The school day starts at 8.55 and finishes at 3.00. First lunch runs from 11.00 – 11.40 and second lunch from 1.10 – 1.50. Children also have a brain food break in their class sometime around 10.00.
We follow the New Zealand Curriculum, so children learn reading, writing, maths, science, social sciences, technology and the arts (music, drama and dance).
They learn both content knowledge and the process for being a good learner in those areas. This means that while they develop a good base of knowledge as they pass through our school, but they also learn the skills that need to learn by themselves and for themselves. This is really building their skill base to go to be really successful throughout their education.
In addition to these areas children also have opportunities to take part in and excel at a range of sports, Kapa Haka and Pasifika performances.
Our year 5 and 6 students are all encouraged to attend camp annually.
We also have a house system at school. All children are allocated to a house when they enrol; Kowhai, Miro, Totara or Rimu.
Children collect house points for their house and represent their house at different events through the year. It is a chance for our students to develop the principles of tuakana teina – taking on responsibility for the care of and providing an example for our younger students.
