“INCREDIBLE” WINNERS!
Monday, 5 July, the first day of the school holidays, was a cold, windy and
rainy day. Eight students from Peninsula Primary, supported by their parents
and some family members, braved the weather and represented our school at
The University of Auckland’s
2010 INCREDIBLE SCIENCE DESIGN YOUR OWN
BOARD GAME COMPETITION.
Jayden Smith, Caitlin Lorigan, Samantha Harding, Elijah Manu, Rex Kennedy,
Hayley Whittaker, Cross Garcia and Cress Garcia worked hard, independently
or in pairs during Term 2, to make a board game on any Science Theme. They
were among just under a hundred other schools from the Auckland Region
who had to explain to the judges how they went about making their game and
how their games are played. The range, quality and standard of all the entries
were very high and our students presented themselves to the judges very
confidently. In the first round of the competition, out of thirty eight schools,
Peninsula Primary had three entries amongst the five finalists. In the second
round a further three finalists were chosen. From the eight finalists of the
primary school section Peninsula Primary won three prizes. Team Cross/ Cres
Garcia were placed Third overall, team Rex Kennedy/ Hayley Whittaker and
team Elijah Manu, each won places in the “Highly Commended” category. This
year’s result has been our best ever and the efforts of these students have
won the school $200 worth of books for the library. Each of the winners also
received individual prize packs. Our congratulations go to all eight students for
taking up the challenge of participating in the competition. The school is
proud of their efforts. Special congratulations go to the winners because they
competed with the whole of the Auckland Region and won!A special word of
thanks goes to all the parents for their support and encouragement. Our
school has been participating in this competition since its inception in 2002
and the summary of results gives an indication of our school’s success over the
years.
