Persuasive Writing in the Middle School

We have been focusing on persuasive writing this term.In Room 8, we were given a pretend statement and we wrote about this topic.

We hope you enjoy reading some of Room 8’s work and that you are persuaded by it J

The Board of Trustees is thinking about closing the Learning Centre.Do you think the Learning Centre should be closed?

Trey Ngawaka

I disagree that they should shut down the Learning Centre. The library should not be closed. You can learn from the books. And if you don’t know a word you can look for it in the book, and learn a word you don’t know. At the Learning Centre you can play on the computer. And read lots of books in the library. The library is cool, you can look and you can learn about animals and different stuff. You can get a book and read it to someone and read lots of books and go on a higher level and read higher books. I think the library should not be closed.

I disagree that the library should be closed. You can go there at lunch time and play lots of fun games like hangman and you can also read the Guinness World book of records. You can learn lots of stuff from the non-fiction books. The Learning Centre has lots of funny fiction books and interesting fiction books. The Learning Centre is important to me because it helps me. The games at the Learning Centre are really fun. The Guinness World book of records have heaps of cool facts. When you’re working on a speech you can use the books to help you. Pretty, pretty please don’t close the Learning Centre. I do not want you to close it down. It is not fine with me.

Joshua Larking

I strongly believe that we shouldn’t close the Learning Centre. Why? Well, many students might not get a chance to get out library books for free, like me. I’m not allowed to go to the library in Te Atatu. I believe we shouldn’t close the Learning Centre so that children like me can have a chance to get out books. We have to stand up for ourselves because the BOT want to shut it down. Plus, we won’t have Book Fairs, how would that feel? I strongly believe we should keep our schools library open because people who have headaches or migraines can have a quite place to go. What about me? I love books, especially Roald Dhal, he is a really funny author.Thos are all me reasons why we should not close the library.

The BOT is thinking about closing the Learning Centre to save more money. I disagree that the BOT is going to close the Learning Centre. I really, really disagree. You get to learn more about books and there are heaps of different kinds of books you can learn from. You can learn about animals, sea creatures, bugs, jobs, and heaps of other things. You might learn about fun stuff you can do, like cooking, making things and drawing. Also you can learn about animals like tigers, zebras, lions, hippos, monkeys and other animals too. Or you can learn about doing things like going to the mall, drawing, making things and also cooking. My opinion is the BOT should not take away the Learning Centre. I really, really disagree about closing the Learning Centre.

I strongly agree that the Learning Centre should be closed. Children use class time at the library when they should be learning and doing maths, reading, spelling, topic and writing. Mrs Litten has to waste 6 hours at the library when she could be at the beach enjoying sunbathing in the sun. children and teacher can look for facts on the computers and don’t need books. If we sell all of our books then we will have more money and we can buy more Mimios, desks, cupboards, furniture, chairs and things like that. At the Learning Centre, children don’t learn anything at all. Children just walk in and then sit down. And books cost lots of money. Each book costs about $20, that’s foolish. Children get out books, take them home and then what happens? Opps, I left it at home, using up $20 just so children lose the book. Children go to the library at lunch time when they should be running around to lose some energy. The reason I think the library should be closed is because I spend about half an hour trying to find a book! Then I can’t find it again and mum has to pay $20 for it. I strongly agree that the Learning Centre should be closed.
