Our Enviroschool 2010

Our Enviroschool Programme  2010

Last year our school began a journey towards becoming an Enviroschool. An Enviroschool is a school that is working towards being as environmentally sustainable as possible. This process takes time, but every step we take helps the environment, and teaches our children how to live in a more sustainable way. So far, we have made worm farms and compost bins, built some gardens and completed a waste audit to find out how we can reduce our waste.  To help with the planning and development of projects across the school, Enviroschool leaders have been nominated from each class. This week our leaders met with our organic gardening project mentor Dee Pignéguy. She went through our garden with us and we took out some tomatoes, potatoes and basil that had been growing for awhile and we planted some strawberries. We now have some areas ready for planting some more winter vegetables. We also turned our compost over and mulched and watered the whole garden. It was a great time and we learned heaps about gardening.
